The décor throughout the hotel is beautiful. Can you tell us about your design process?
“We worked closely with Household, a London based design consultancy specialising in guest experience through interior design. They chose a colour palette based on the tones of the natural landscape surrounding the hotel – oyster grey, porcelain and misty blue – so the living spaces seamlessly merge with the outdoors.”
How do you create your signature contemporary Cornish look?
“We tried to source as many items as locally as possible to keep our spaces authentic. We’ve used rustic floorboards, natural slate and Cornish granite cobbles. Even our lighting has a marine influence with fixtures in brass and copper and driftwood lamps coming together.”
What do you look for in a supplier?
“Just like the coastline, our spaces can really be exposed to the elements. We have surfers coming in after a session in the surf, excitable families who’ve been on the beach and even wet pawed dogs, so pieces which can withstand a bit of wear are a must for us. Our Aspace children’s bunk beds have seen thousands of little ones come and go. We have guests staying at the hotel all year round, so we need to know we have furniture we can rely on.”
Your guests seem to love your styling. What’s the item that draws the most attention?
Our guest often comment on our wall paper, which we was made exclusively for Watergate Bay, and our throws which add a pop of colour to the bedrooms. These, along with the stripped cushions, can be bought from the online shop.
You can recreate your very own hotel luxury look at home with exclusively designed Aspace furniture. All of our children’s beds are crafted to the exact same quality that Watergate Bay have used and loved for many years.
